Industrial area of the future

The kick off project of the Leaders for Nature Inspirational Programme is the "Industrial area of the future". Co-initiator ARCADIS and a couple of other companies will combine their knowledge and expertise and put in their industrial areas for nature and new business.

At this moment industrial areas only have one function: the housing of offices and plants. This “grey” infrastructure can be used much better. The development and marketing of ecosystem services increases profitability of the industrial areas, involves and raises awareness among employees and strengthens the connection between the private sector and civil society.

The industrial area will also function as a corridor between nature areas in the Netherlands. By doing this plant and animal species can distribute over larger areas and have therefore more change to survive a changing climate. IUCN member organizations like the Zoogdiervereniging and RAVON are supporting the project.

Currently the participating companies are working on a concrete project proposal for the kick off project. The aim is to start the development of the industrial area of the future before the end of 2012.
